Should it be mandatory to vote?
Voting is a privilege. To get the opportunity to choose who leads us as a whole is very important at a patriotic citizen. But, some don’t really care to get into politics as much as others. If the United States changed their way of voting to be mandatory I think it would have a negative outcome on the issue.
Making people vote who do not want to could potentially sway the election drastically. Situations might occur where an American Citizen could not have any recollection of what each candidate’s outlook is but since it is mandatory they will just choose random answers. The whole point of us as the people voting for our leader is we want someone who we feel has the same point of view as us.
How are we supposed to be well represented if you do not even know what the candidates perspective is? As stated in Rick Pildez’s article “A healthy democracy requires competitive elections in which voters perceive something meaningful is at stake.”
